Coppell LAX advances to first DI tournament

On Tuesday night, the Coppell Lacrosse club ousted the defending state champion Highland Park Scots, 11-7, to move into the playoffs.

In what was essentially a play-in game, the Cowboys got down early in a 3-0 hole, but bounced back. With a 5-3 deficit  in the third quarter, Coppell stringed together seven straight goals, which all but ended the match.

Trent Dennington, a student from Colleyville, put four balls in the back of the net, while Syracuse commit Brandon Mullins shut down the Scots’ Campbell Sody, who is a Rutgers commit.

Now the Cowboys enter the Texas High School Lacrosse League Division I bracket that consists of 12 highly-skilled teams from Austin, Houston, San Antonio and Dallas. Coppell hosts half of the first two round match-ups, which is also known as the Super Regionals.

In these beginning rounds, the Cowboys will face Westwood on Saturday and, if they win, will take on the Woodlands the following day.
