Today after school, National Art Honor Society (NAHS) and National Honor Society (NHS) are uniting under one cause and folding as many origami cranes as possible. Any students, friends and teachers are invited to join this effort in the large commons today from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. The Bezos Family Foundations has agreed to donate $2 per paper crane (up to $200,000) to the reconstruction efforts in Japan from the devastating earthquake, helping to rebuild through the Architecture for Humanity organization.
Wilson Elementary is was the first school to bring this effort to Coppell– so far, students have folded more than 2,500 paper cranes. The 100,000 paper cranes submitted to the foundation, made by students from all around the nation, will be put together into a piece of artwork that will be gifted to the youth of Japan.
This after school effort will count as 2 hours toward group hours for NHS members that attend the full 2 hours, or members can submit 30 paper cranes to make up for one group hour. NAHS is also offering hours for this event.
