The editors of New South Books have decided to make changes to the Mark Twain classic “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn” by censoring the use of the N-word.
According to the CNN website, New South Books has released a new version of the book that changes all of the N-words to the word “slave”. While some have criticized the move as censorship of art, others have applauded the publisher’s efforts to make the story more accessible to the modern times.
Many schools have already dropped the book from their annual reading lists because of the language used, and this move could bring it back to the lists once again.
