Since eighth grade, Coppell High School senior Chloe Vigue has been a constant in my life.
We started out as locker buddies at Coppell Middle School East. I was a new student trying to navigate making friends, and she was a friendly face who was willing to talk to me. Spanish class conversations became actual conversations about ourselves as people. She was easy to talk to, and I wanted to be her friend.
The rest, as they say, is history.
It is difficult to encompass how much my friendship with Chloe means to me in one column, because I let her see versions of myself I would never show others. I can be crying, angry or overwhelmed, and she never bats an eye. She is simply there when I need her.
Chloe is also with me when I am at my best. Whenever something exciting happens to me, she is one of the first people I tell.
She endures my shenanigans and my even worse jokes. I never feel like I am too much around her. Any social awkwardness I have vanishes.
When I supported her decision to join The Sidekick and pursue her passion of graphic design, I got to see her pride in her work. The passion and dedication she puts in her art and photography is something I’ve always admired, and seeing it come to fruition in this program makes me extremely happy and proud.
Together, we also have our fair share of chaos. We like to joke that whenever we are together something usually goes awry, but there is no one else I would rather share these moments and the laughs they bring with them.
There have been physics labs gone wrong (the egg drop project taught us engineering is definitely not our calling), midnight calls trying to complete dual credit economics work (we still don’t know how to interpret a supply or demand graph) and a chaotic coverage assignment where she stood by me the whole time (if she wasn’t there I probably would have cried).
Chloe, you are one of my best friends. Our paths will diverge after we graduate, but I know one thing for sure: you will shine wherever you go. I am so excited to see where life takes you.
Some of my favorite memories are with you, and I hope we get to make more in this next chapter of our lives.
