What are the chances that you end up in the same class as your friend for two years?
Some may call it coincidence, but I like to think of it as a second opportunity.
Every day for the past school year, I am met with the same welcome by The Sidekick social media manager Pranavi Ramineni.
“Oh my gosh! Hi Vidya!”
Once the classic line is said, a bright smile spreads across Pranavi’s face as she embraces me with a hug.
Now, I am not the biggest fan of hugs, but I accept the ones from Pranavi because I know these moments will not appear in the coming months.
I met Pranavi in my second semester of sophomore year as I was conversing with The Sidekick video editor Greeshma Marathu. Even in our first moments together, all we did was laugh. At times, my stomach began to clench and cramp as we laughed at almost anything.
Over time, Pranavi and I grew closer, especially when we found out that we had Sidekick together for another year. Throughout our friendship, Pranavi is not just a friend to me but someone that I can rely on.
I remember the first time I was covering an event on social media and all I was doing was freaking out.
“What if I mess up?”
“What if I forget to log into the social media accounts?”
And of course, I actually messed up my first time doing social media coverage. I jinxed myself and I forgot to ask for the logins for the accounts.
Luckily for me, Pranavi saves the day. She came through the doors and all I could do was thank the universe that Pranavi was helping me log into social media.
As I covered the event, I felt comfortable enough to ask Pranavi for help and it ended up being alright. Even when Pranavi is occupied, she always takes the time out of her schedule to help me.
As the school year comes to an end, I want to appreciate the time I have left with my favorite senior. Whether it be working on assignments together, calling her a rat after she insults me, or practicing our handshake that very much needs improvement, these are the moments I will cherish the most.
Sidekick will be different next year. Not just because D115 won’t be the designated Sidekick room anymore, but because I won’t be getting my usual greetings.
No more blinding smiles. No more endearing hugs. No more Pranavi.
To my dear friend Pranavi: I will miss you and forever hope that I will get a third opportunity to see you again.
