As the year comes to an end and we prepare to say goodbye to our seniors, there are certain people whose presence has left an undeniable impact on us that their departure feels a little heavier. 

For me, that person is The Sidekick’s communications manager Sabah Uddin.

From the moment I joined The Sidekick, she has been more than just a classmate; she’s been a mentor, a supporter and most of all, a friend. Whether I was struggling with a deadline or feeling unsure of my place in the newsroom, she was there for me — always steady, always smiling.

One moment I will never forget is when I could not get a CHS9 student to respond to an interview request. I felt stuck, defeated even. But, Sabah jumped in without hesitation, helped me get in touch with him and turned a frustrating situation into a learning experience.

That is just the type of person Sabah is: someone who lifts others up and never lets them feel alone.

Sabah’s positivity is infectious. No matter what is happening, she manages to find the silver lining. Every time I approach Sabah, whether it be about a story or just to chat, I am welcomed with that same bright smile and welcoming energy. It is impossible not to feel better after talking with her. She makes this chaotic world of journalism feel a little more manageable, and she reminds me that kindness and patience can go a long way.

She is not just an incredible teammate, but also an extraordinary human being. Sabah’s ability to balance being both a leader and a friend is something I deeply admire. I have grown so much through her guidance, and I know I’m not the only one.

As she moves on to the next chapter of her life, I do not doubt that she will continue to light up every space she walks into just like she did here.

To Sabah, thank you for everything. You’ve left a mark on this newsroom and on me.
