“Heeeyyyy Pranavi!”

That is how senior Neha Nathwani greets me every time we see each other. It is the kind of greeting that instantly makes me smile, because it’s so her — friendly, familiar and full of warmth.

When I first met Neha my sophomore year, I was honestly a little intimidated. She always looked so confident and serious, like she knew exactly what she was doing. And she did. But what I did not know yet was just how kind and thoughtful she really is.

As we got closer in the 2024-25 school year, during my junior year and her senior year, I started to see the real Neha. The one who makes time for others. The one who leads with empathy. The one who genuinely listens when you need to talk. 

It didn’t take long to realize the person she is is someone I really look up to, not just because of her talent, but her heart.

One thing that always makes me laugh is how often people confuse us for each other. But honestly, I take that as a compliment. If someone thinks I am anything like her, I’m doing something right. She is grounded, hard-working and full of quiet strength.

In The Sidekick, Neha’s dedication speaks for itself. Whether she’s writing stories, helping someone through a tough moment or just being a calming presence in the newsroom, she gives it her all. The space feels different when she is not in it.

Looking back, I am so glad we took photos during our time together — they have captured moments I never want to forget. When you are gone, I hope you will keep sending me pictures, especially of the little moments. They will help me feel close to you, like you are still part of my world, even though you are no longer close by.

Neha, thank you for mentoring me, for believing in me and for all the memories we have shared. I am going to miss you so much, but I know you are going to do amazing things. And I cannot wait to see where you go from here.
