I never even knew executive editor-in-chief Sukirtha Muthiah until our first staff social.
It was cloudy outside, looking like it was almost about to rain. I sit with Sukirtha and executive features editor Rhea Choudhary. I decide to get some information from them and all of a sudden Sukirtha says to me, “nice Apple hat.” I responded with “thanks” and got to know her a lot better as a person, a really good person.
As she was sipping on her latte, which was glued to her hand, staff writer Hamza Zakir started screaming like a crazy person. I tell him to calm down in the most aggressive way possible — Sukirtha chuckles.
I have never met somebody who was that kind towards me. Sukirtha welcomes me to The Sidekick newsroom whenever I come during my lunch, encouraging me with whatever I do. I relate to her on so many levels that Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz can not even compare. She is our Artyon Senna and will be highly respected among our crew.
Whether it be trying to dab up our adviser Mr. Wofford or trying to follow along with one of my dumb and censored jokes, she has a good sense of humor and laughs for every single one. That pushed me to make my written stand-up.
Personally or professionally, I always know I can rely on Sukirtha. Fun fact: she worked with my brother, Geeth, at Kumon. We usually joke about Geeth and how he is an absolute nerd overall (sorry, Geeth).
She is very determined and, if you think about it, Sukirtha is like the boss of The Sidekick, so she definitely has high expectations. Sukirtha is like a machine when it comes to our work because she crushes it — it makes me want to perform at her level.
A photo for a story? Made with passion and finesse. Ideas for print? SukirthaGPT comes to the rescue. If The Sidekick was a Formula One team, she would be the strategist or lead engineer. Mr. Wofford would definitely be our team principal. When it comes to Sukirtha, she is genuinely just that good.
I believe that I had the best memories with Sukirtha this year, and I will cherish them. From Hamza skipping like a princess through the rain to the pressure of off-the-floors, I will keep those memories forever.
So, my last message to you, Sukirtha, is that I hope you achieve more and I have had an extremely close relationship with you this year. I stick by this quote and she embodies this: “Enjoy the butterflies, enjoy the nerves and the pressure. Enjoy the process of making a name for yourself, and enjoy meeting new people that challenge you and make you feel happy,” – Daniel Riccardo, 7-time Grand Prix winner in Formula One.
Whether it be professionally or personally, you have had a lasting impact on this team and… *crocodile tears producing* I will really miss your presence next year.
