The first trait I noticed about senior Sidekick staff photographer Sohana Singh was her sense of style. I always appreciated her colorful outfits, wishing I had even half the style she did.
As the year went on, I began to notice more than just her clothes. Sohana is a multi-talented journalist. Her photos uniquely portray emotions, and her written stories are just as admirable.
Her dedication to The Sidekick inspires me to do more and strive for excellence. Her coverage for the girls’ soccer team at the Class 6A Division I regional quarterfinals was the true definition of persistence, despite the game going on past midnight.
Not only is Sohana an exemplary staff member, but she is also willing to help others.
It is no surprise to most that I am a shy person in general. It takes me at least 10 minutes to gather the confidence to talk to someone, so when I needed help on a feature I was writing for the VEX Robotics Organization, I took a deep breath and messaged her after I learned of her involvement in VEX. I hoped she could help me because robotics is far from my area of expertise.
Now, I realize that I should not have been scared to ask her anything at all. She was happy to help me, even being willing to look over my story to give me honest feedback. I trusted her input, especially due to the high quality of the work she consistently produces.
I hope to develop her work ethic and produce high-quality work like hers during my time in the program.
Above all, it is her kindness that makes me feel so comfortable around her, so it makes sense that her favorite color is yellow. Yellow — a color reminding me of compassion and warmth — she embodies it
Sohana, thank you for being kind to me, and thank you for being an example of a staff member I should strive to be. I hope you have fun at the Stray Kids concert. I’ll try not to be jealous.
