Coppell wrestling held the annual Spring Jam youth-league tournament, hosting students at the CHS Field House.
The event on April 5 consisted of both Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling, with wrestlers in age divisions 8U-14U only allowed to compete in freestyle matches and those in 16U competing in both categories.
Spring Jam also acted as a fundraiser for CHS wrestlers.
“This will support our booster club, and help pay for camps and newer equipment,” freshman Isabella Malcolm said.
The Coppell Wrestling Booster Board set up a table with concessions for competitors to raise money.
“We had to order enough snacks, drinks, coffee and food for wrestlers and families as they are competing throughout the day. On top of that we had to consider our volunteers, so it took a couple weeks of planning to put everything together,” booster board member Rohini Mehta said. “We have a set routine, the hospitality crew organizes the food while concession helpers deal with snacks.”
The Spring Jam has been hosted by Coppell for more than two decades, simultaneously serving as a food drive.
“It is always our goal for wrestling to give back. One of the ways we do that is through our food drive. Our opponents bring in cans to help us out, and we turn them to the Coppell Food Bank,” boys coach Chip Lowery.
