Coppell senior second baseman Natalie Howell steps up to the plate. The third inning had begun and three Cowgirls were already on base. Making contact, the ball soars to the outfield landing just short of the fence.
Howell rounds first base, then second and as she approaches third base, she gets waved home, achieving an inside the park grand slam.
This type of energy at bat continued throughout a 15-0 win over Lewisville via the mercy rule for the Coppell softball team on Tuesday night at Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex.
“We had really good energy, we kept our bats alive, and just battled through this game,” sophomore catcher Emma Praytor said. “I think we’re going to build off of this, keep hitting, and keep doing our best.”
With the flip coming in the third inning, the Cowgirls did not look back, scoring another home run by senior outfielder Nevaeh Carter. The score went from 2-0 at the beginning of the third to 8-0 at the end.
Coppell plays at Denton Braswell on April 15 at 7 p.m.
“Our bats were hot tonight,” Coppell softball coach Emily Witt said. “A combination of us shutting out their bats and our bats being hot really helped us tonight.”
