In a classroom, alive with the buzz of engaged students participating in class and the soft click of camera shutters, CHS9 Career and Technical Education teacher Chad Price stands at the center, fueling the energy and excitement throughout his classroom.
Price grew up in Lubbock, where his first grade teacher, Lawanna Moore, sparked his love for teaching.
“She impacted my life not just as a teacher but also as a personal mentor,” Price said. “When I was laid off from my full-time job, I looked back on her life and what she had inspired in me and I said ‘You know what? Teaching is the way to go.”
Price was a technology instructor at Richardson ISD where he taught audio and visual media to seventh and eighth graders. To advance his career, he set his sights on CHS9 where he has been teaching Principles of Arts, AV Tech and Communications and Principles of Engineering.
Aside from Moore’s impact on Price, he wanted to teach his students skills applying to their futures.
“I wanted to give my students a lifelong path rather than just something that was going to be a core curriculum,” Price said. “In terms of learning, something that they might use periodically, but not use every day.”
Alongside his motivation to teach, Price connects with his students using his sense of humor.
“He loves to joke around all the time, he even has a joke of the day on the board,” freshman Khushi Singla said. “It makes the classroom a lot more enjoyable and it makes the atmosphere in the room a lot more calm.”
Business teacher David Janeski also considers Price’s sharp sense of humor a highlight of his day.
“His daily dad jokes keep us laughing and happy,” Janeski said. “Some are not as funny as others but they always bring a smile.”
In addition to his humor, past students cite his motivation in class as a deciding factor in pursuing specialized pathways at Coppell High School.
“Mr. Price was very organized and passionate about what he did, and you could see it through the way he spoke about his job,” sophomore Riya Singh said. “A/V Tech is something I’m passionate about, and because of his encouraging words, I’ve pursued Round-Up my sophomore year.”
While teaching Principles of Arts, AV Tech and Communications, Price also conducts the morning announcements at CHS9, wanting to step up from spoken ones. He approached the new campus principal about taking the announcements to the video screen.

“I thought that there’s got to be a better way to present the announcements that need to be presented during advisory,” Price said. “I went to Dr. Greg Axelson about it and he was fully on board with it because at [Coppell Middle School North], that’s what they did.”
Price’s connection with others allows him to better communicate with his peers and students.
“Mr. Price is a great communicator and always in a good mood,” Janeski said. “He builds business relationships that provide creative and relevant real-life experiences for his students.”
Price not only wants his students to grasp the concepts he teaches but also mature within his class.
“I want them to learn a professional manner of dealing with other people,” Price said. “With that, they can carry on conversations that are not just mature, but include the topics that they’re trying to carry out.”
