It is the bottom of the fourth inning, and the Coppell baseball team is tied with Little Elm. The dugout watches as junior first baseman Troy Hill steps up to the plate. Hill sends a line drive up the middle, scoring two runs.
That was just the beginning of Coppell’s offense for the night. The Cowboys secured an 11-4 victory in a District 5-6A game against Little Elm at Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex on Wednesday.
After a weather postponement of the game to the following day and a slow start on both sides the Cowboys took control of the game with a number of hits and strong defensive execution.

“We put up seven in the fourth inning after we were down two. That really turned the game around for us,” Hill said. “This win gives us confidence. If we keep hitting like this, we’ll be in a great spot moving forward.”
The Cowboys started the game taking control of the field, taking a 2-0 lead after two innings. With a line drive RBI double over the Little Elm shortstop by senior catcher Cain Frosk, senior outfielder Scott Fishpaw was brought home.
Little Elm took the lead in the third inning, getting to first by a line drive down the third base line by junior infielder William Buck, putting the Lobos ahead, 4-2.
“We just try to refocus and control the things we can control, rather than dwelling on past errors,” Coppell coach Armando Garza said. “We’re really focused on moving forward and overcoming adversity.”
Coppell broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth. Following Hill’s hit, Frosk walked, and a double from senior outfielder Riley Bishop scored two, extending the lead to 7-2 for the fourth inning. The Cowboys capitalized on Little Elm’s defensive mistakes, keeping the pressure on their opponents.
“We got together, talked about it, and really just locked in,” Frosk said. “Then we had that big inning with seven runs, and that really put us on it. This game really woke up our bats and uplifted our confidence for the rest of the season.”
Little Elm attempted to rally in the fifth, but struck out leaving the score at 9-4.
Coppell views this win as something to build on for momentum during the rest of the season.
“They were really hot at the plate tonight, and that helped us build momentum,” Garza said. “It’s tremendous, but really, we hit all the way up and down the lineup in key situations. It was really clutch tonight, and I’m really proud of that. I want them to remember we can hit and we can win games.”
Coppell plays at Little Elm at 7 p.m. on Friday.
