Sitting in second place in District 5-6A at 8-1-2 and 14-1-3 overall, the Coppell girls soccer team has its eyes on first place. The match against Denton Braswell on Tuesday is a stepping stone to that goal.
The Senior Night match at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night at Buddy Echols Field, according to Cowgirls coach Craig Able, is one they need to win.
“It is a game we won round one, so it is a game we hope to win round two,” Able said. “It is Senior Night, so we’re going to have a lot of emotions and excitement.”
The Bengals currently have a 0-11 record in district. The Cowgirls are looking to keep their momentum with strong possession and a controlled tempo, and put in players in the best position to do so.
“We look at each practice: who is out there performing, who is doing the little things right and putting us in the best position to win games,” Able said.
Even with the favorable odds, the Cowgirls look at potential for improvement in their performance.
“We’ve struggled a little bit in transition goals,” Able said. “ For us, making sure that we don’t give up any transition goals and not giving up goals from a buildout [is something we’re looking to improve].”
