What Inspired you to become an officer within CHS9 HOSA?
I just wanted to make as much of a change as I could, no matter the scale it would be. I am starting as a HOSA officer. People trusted me, and that is why they voted for me. I am trying to do anything I can to make CHS9 a better place and inspire people to pursue a career in medicine.
What initially interested you in the world of health science?
I have had family members who have passed away due to cancer and other things. If they were aware of their medical illness earlier, they would have been able to prevent it. It is all about making the public more aware, and making them take accountability for their health. Healthcare is kind of messed up right now in all countries, especially in the United States. I am trying to make it to where people can have the best quality of life they can.
What are some qualities a HOSA officer must have?
You will have to show integrity, accountability, doing what you promised to do and trying to help throughout school. It is also important to try to help out wherever you can or however you can and show leadership as well. You need to be able to communicate your thoughts and think with the people who are in HOSA because they are the ones who organize the club, and without them there would not be a HOSA. The members are the ones who decide that we should be here. HOSA officers are just trying to help people in the club and are the face of it, but without the members we could not do anything.
What are some highlights about working with your peers in HOSA?
I get to meet new people. I am the only HOSA officer who is from [Coppell Middle School North], so I am getting to meet new people. The ideas we share are all really different, but still trying to be able to work with that and trying to do the best for the club; that is in everyone’s interest.
Why should people care about HOSA?
People should care about HOSA because one, if you are interested in healthcare, this is a great place to meet people who are interested in the same things as you, and you can elevate each other. Second of all, even if you are not interested in healthcare, everyone has some degree of responsibility to know about medicine or health. When they grow up and become adults, or even right now, in order to properly live to your fullest, you need to make sure you are on top of your health. No one else is going to look after your health once you go into the real world. It is more about what you are going to do in this life that is really important.
How does it feel knowing you represent Coppell?
It is definitely a pretty big burden, but it is a burden that comes with its own happiness and enjoyment because I am enjoying what I do. If that was not the case, then it would be different. There is that big burden for representing such a big organization at our school, and there are so many other people who wanted to do what I do, and they may not be able to. Trying my hardest and working my hardest is what is really important to me.
