Riding a four-match win streak and tied with Flower Mound Marcus at five wins apiece for District 5-6A, the Coppell boys soccer team faces the Marauders at Buddy Echols Field today at 7:30 p.m.
With both teams evenly matched, the Cowboys have just one shot to maintain their first place position in the district and keep their momentum rolling, despite setbacks.
“We haven’t had the same lineup twice,” Morris said. “We’ve had guys get hurt, we’ve had guys get sick, we’ve had guys go missing, but we still had success. The boys see that, and it instills belief. We have confidence right now.”
For Coppell, taking home a ninth overall victory depends on its ability to convert chances in the final third and sustain tight defense. The Cowboys have only allowed a total of two goals in their last four games.
“Defensively, we have depth this year,” Morris said. “We have been able to reach to the bench, find players that are versatile, and just plug them in. At the end of the day, I want good soccer players, and I got that this year.”
