Two minutes into the second half, senior forward Reagan Roberson drills the ball into the net. Just two minutes later, senior defender Jordan Clig follows up with another goal, keeping the momentum alive.
On Friday at Buddy Echols Field, the Coppell girls soccer team defeated Lewisville, 7-0, remaining undefeated in District 5-6A at 4-0.
The Cowgirls scored two goals in the first half.
“We reminded the team to stay patient and disciplined,” Coppell coach Craig Able said. “Lewisville came out compact and organized, but we knew their system would be tiring. We just had to be patient, take what was given, and not force things. The opportunities were there, we hit the post twice and had two shots cleared off the line in the first half.”
However, by stretching the defense and creating more space, the Cowgirls capitalized with five goals in the second half.
“In the second half, we did a great job finding the backside switch,” junior forward Neerali Kapadia said. “It was open in the first half, but we didn’t take advantage of it enough. After focusing on it more, we were able to break through and score five goals.”
With Kapadia scoring in the first half and Roberson adding two goals in the second, one assisted by Kapadia, both controlled the ball, creating strong scoring opportunities.
“Reagan did a fantastic job finding the net and she’s been our leading goalscorer all season,”Able said. “Neerali controlled the game well, leading the team in assists. It wasn’t a busy night for our defense, but it’s another shutout for our goalkeepers, and we’ve only given up three goals all season, which is fantastic.”
The Cowgirls play Flower Mound on Friday.
“Tonight was a great team effort and a clean win,” Able said. “It’s a reminder of who we are and what it will take to accomplish our goals.”
