On Tuesday night, the Coppell City Council members announced a new monthly senior center trail running program. Their first run on Jan. 25 included 72 participants, defying the norms at the senior center.
“We are very excited to hear that it was positively received by the attendees and look forward to seeing what the attendance looks like moving forward,” Mayor Pro Tem Kevin Nevels said.
The senior center will soon receive new cardio equipment and flooring. To facilitate the work, the location will be closed until the beginning of February.
The Council additionally included information on project updates in the area including the ongoing DART construction on sidewalks and asphalt repairs. At the Freeport Parkway-Northwestern Drive traffic signal, the installation of ADA ramps, sidewalks and conduits concluded and will receive signal poles in the coming weeks.
At the end of the meeting, the Council discussed the Coppell Arts Center Foundation’s annual fundraiser as its third gala. The Rhapsody in the Deep Blue Sea concert will be hosted to support the Arts Center at 7 p.m. on March 1.
Council member Jim Walker expressed his admiration for the creativity and entertainment that sprung in the last 12 months. He attributes this success to the beneficial work done by the staff members of the foundation.
“I think the art center has just absolutely caught fire,” Walker said. “The Art Center Foundation really found its groove.”
