The Coppell football team has locked down a playoff spot and one more win secures the District 5-6A championship for the Cowboys.
Its battle will be against Flower Mound (5-3, 2-3 in District 5-6A) as they come into the game looking to play spoiler to Coppell’s undefeated season at Neal Wilson Athletic Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m.
“They are a tough team that will be looking for a win because playoffs are also on their mind,” Coppell assistant Zachary Gonzalez said. “However, I know our group is determined to close out the season and lock up the highest seed we can attain.”
With Flower Mound losing sophomore wide receiver Carter Massey, it has been forced to adjust to the injury by changing its offense.
“They did a complete 180 with their offense and it almost worked out last week for them,” Gonzalez said. “We have to pay attention to their schemes and we are going to bring it blitz wise so they have to get rid of the ball quickly.”
With Coppell (8-0, 5-0) ranked No. 96 nationally according to Max Preps national rankings, the Cowboys have to operate around the pressure.
“I tell them that you worked your whole football life for these moments,” Gonzalez said. “Enjoy the attention but remember that you have so much more to accomplish. We have potentially eight more games and we plan to use it all and prove everyone wrong.”
