Matching costumes, most glam or superhero are the themes Coppell residents dressed up as with their dogs on Oct. 5 for the Dog Days event, an adoption opportunity and fashion show. The event was hosted by the Coppell Arts Center at The Grove, to help the sheltered dogs in Coppell find their new homes in Coppell.
The event found new homes with the supporters including Camp Bow Wow, Jett Pets, Recycled Pomeranians and Schipperkes, Coppell Humane Society, Road Trip For Paws and other independent sellers.
The annual event started four years ago.
“It started when we were in COVID-19 mode, and we could only do outdoor events,” Coppell Arts Center board of directors member Becky Barnes said.“We were trying to find a creative way to bring people to the arts center and introduce ourselves.”
Many businesses promote themselves while helping sheltered dogs find homes. Passionate animal lovers come yearly to boost business, raise money for charity or to promote dog adoption.
“I love animals, and it’s all about a fashion show for animals, so I knew it would be so much fun to see a bunch of cute animals,” volunteer Emily Mussatti said.
Houston-business Recycled Pomeranians and Schipperkes attended their second year at the event. They enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the good weather.
“It’s usually a good time of year,” Recycled Pomeranians and Schipperkes founder Cheri Fults said. “It’s friendly, you know, dog friendly.”
This event brings Coppell together as adopters, vendors and future clients find dogs a new home.
The vendors at this event came for their mutual love for animals, wanting to find dogs homes and to support the Coppell Arts Center.
“It’s about supporting the animals in the community, and it was a good chance to support the arts foundation and just get out together,” Riverchase Animal Hospital medical director Dr. Kelly Dees said.
With creative costumes ranging from matching cow and cowboy outfits to most glamorous to becoming a superhero, dogs dressed up in many creative outfits. Also accompanying the fashion show, attendees watched a dog stunt team, Canine Stars, as a small intermission during the event.
“It was really fun, and I was surprised how well attended it was.” contestant Gina Calabro said. “I just think it’s a great family event and just brings people together and I mean I’m very pleased to see the turnout.”
