On Tuesday, Coppell tennis defeated Frisco Lebanon Trail and Hebron (14-5) at Coppell Tennis Center. Coppell improves to 12-1.
“We were definitely slated to win this matchup for both varsity and JV,” Coppell coach Alyssa Noonan said. “The team’s been competing really well so far throughout the whole preseason which is pretty rigorous, so we’re really excited to start district play tonight.”
Entering the match, priority was placed on doubles to ensure victory for Coppell. To do this, a doubles strategy was developed.
“Coach Chris Terry and I worked together to put together the best possible doubles pairing that we could because that’s what gets plated first,” Noonan said. “For our double strategy. A lot of movement, using signals, different formations, and all the fundamentals, and the kids have been working hard just drilling it everyday.”
Coppell seniors Laksita Yuvaraja and Anand Palaniappan won their doubles match, 7-6, 7-5.
“The things we worked on in practice are volleying and hitting at the net,” Yuvaraja said. “In doubles, the most important thing is to be aggressive and make the point finish early, and so that’s really what we’ve been working on practice and it did help in the game improvement.”
Coppell plays at Southlake Carroll at 4 p.m. on Friday.
