On April 26, Coppell High School held its annual Red Jackets induction ceremony, welcoming the 2024-25 leaders of the campus. Red Jackets are a highly honored group of Coppell, with 36 students representing their class after submitting applications and going through interviews for selection.
Coppell High School Red Jackets sponsor Courtney Crosby stands in front of 72 Red Jackets with tears filling her eyes and the room’s silence is filled with a warmth of memories, gratitude and pride to be a part of the Coppell community.
The program consisted of the class of 2024 sharing its words of wisdom, a walk down memory lane with sponsors Dr. Bianca Benitez and Crosby, in addition to a speech from Principal Laura Springer about the importance of leadership and character.
The 2023-24 Red Jacket seniors commemorate their experiences and share valuable lessons learned along the way.
“School is always important but remember that it is your last year of high school, so do your best to say yes to anything that comes your way,” senior Lauren Monroe said. “The most rewarding part of this year for me hasn’t been the grades or the soccer; it’s been the relationships I have built with amazing people, so pour your all into connecting and making the most of those around you.”
The induction concluded with the passing on of jackets from senior members to new inductees and the seniors receiving their graduation cords from Dr. Benitez and Crosby.
“Thank you to each senior for investing in yourselves and caring about carrying on this legacy to make a difference,” Crosby said. “We can’t wait to work with you newly inducted Red Jackets and as for our graduating seniors, we can’t wait to have a front-row seat to celebrate each of you in the next few weeks.”
With each Red Jacket senior getting the chance to thank Springer for all that she has done, Springer shared a few parting words to give a final farewell.
“You only get to have a certain window with the people you love, so love hard and love strong, because just looking at those of you about to leave, I think about how when you all walk out in your red gowns, I hope I don’t lay down and start crying,” Springer said. “I watched each of you grow into the most beautiful men and women, and I know you are going to go out there and change the world.”
The seniors each share their appreciation for their time as a Red Jacket and pass on their words of wisdom to the incoming inductees.
“Congratulations to all of you, Red Jackets. You were each chosen for a reason and deserve to be here, but there will be a lot to do so our biggest piece of advice to you is to embrace the relationships with your peers – be a family, be open-minded and attend each event with confidence,” senior Hannah Greenberg said. “Stay grounded because even when others stray, you need to have the strength to do what is right. Leave CHS better than how you found it. As a Red Jacket, your legacy will be remembered – make it a meaningful one.”
