Pure rubber flying at speeds upwards of 80 miles per hour. Sticks clanging against each other fighting for possession of the ball. Bodies hurling at lightning speeds as they try to catch a glimpse of open field looking for a shot on goal.
On Saturday, at CHS9, the Coppell Cowboys at Lesley Field, the Coppell boys lacrosse team (4-7) opens what would be an impressive run in the postseason. McKinney (3-8) will come into town at 10 a.m to try to stump the Cowboys in the Class A Super Regionals.
“They have some great pieces and defensive positions that we have to look to stop,” Coppell coach Matt Mueller said. “We have started looking at their better players and we know that Saturday’s game will be a tough one.”
The most important position on the field on Saturday will be the goalkeeper according to Mueller.
“We need Ian to play how he has been playing,” Mueller said. “He has been crucial in winning us the last three games and he has kept us in a lot of games which is extremely important for us.
The two teams will be evenly matched, but Coppell has won three in a row and has the home court advantage.
“We played extremely well in the last half of the season,” Mueller said. “We are going to use the home crowd and try to seal the game in the first round.”
