On Friday, the Coppell baseball team needed a win to advance to the Class 6A playoffs. In a tough game, the Cowboys won, 6-1, over Plano East at Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex.
The Panthers scored in the top of the first, making the score 1-0. The Cowboys followed with four runs in the bottom of the first. This momentum carried on through the rest of the game.
“It’s definitely the way the team came back in the bottom of the first, everyone hit, we just gotta keep going,” Coppell senior outfielder Brodie Scott said.
Both teams shut one another down for five straight innings. Until in the bottom of the sixth, Panthers senior pitcher Drew Devillier’s throwing error to first base allowed Coppell to increase its lead even further at 5-1. Coppell’s Salvador Alonzo reached third base following the error and went on to score the final run of the night.
This win allows the Cowboys to go to the playoffs. Coppell coach Armando Garza is set on taking the team to victory this year.
“We’re not intimated,” Garza said.
