CHS9 freshman Tony Zhang is a 2023-24 Student Council executive officer. Zhang aims to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the students at CHS9.
Why did you run for the executive officer position?
When I first started high school, I knew I wanted to be a part of student council. When I heard about the chance to become an executive officer I thought it would be a good way to benefit the CHS9 community. I felt like I would be a great leader to help represent our entire student body and build the atmosphere here at CHS9.
What is your favorite part about being a student council officer?
We get to create fun, exciting events for all the students. We have a lot of freedom to plan them out. We just completed a student versus staff volleyball game which was pretty entertaining. We have also hosted multiple pep rallies with interesting competitions, such as the cup game, which got a lot of students and teachers involved. We’ve connected with other groups on campus and hosted a food drive which is currently going on right now.
What were some challenges you faced while running for office?
I was in a time crunch to run for office. We had to submit a video, but the process of making a video is hard. You have to think about it, record it and edit it which took a long time for me to finish the entire product. It was also hard to secure votes.
What have you learned from this role?
I’m hoping to gain a lot of leadership skills and the ability to effectively work with others. I also want to learn how to manage my time and create different events.
How do you want to be remembered as an executive officer?
I would want people to remember that if I have a goal, I will always strive to accomplish it.
