The Talk: Vintage or Antique?

Hosted by: Caitlyn Concepcion, Ainsley Dwyer

Edited by: Wendy Le

The line between what’s considered vintage or just old seems to grow thinner over time, which has led to confusion and overconsumption in effort to remain ahead of the trend.

In this episode, The Sidekick’s staff writer Caitlyn Concepcion speaks to entertainment editor Ainsley Dwyer, Coppell High School sophomores Jessica Paulino, Nadeen Azzam and secondhand retail store owner Gabriela Reavis for more insight on distinguishing between the two.

About the Contributors
Caitlyn Concepcion, Staff Writer
Caitlyn Concepcion is a sophomore at Coppell High School and a first-year staffer on The Sidekick. This is Caitlyn’s second year at Coppell Independent School District, moving from North Hills Preparatory. Caitlyn loves English, design, and photography, and it was those passions which propelled her into joining The Sidekick. When she heard from The Sidekick (and after scouring the coppell student media website), Caitlyn felt like the variety of options of medium was instantly compelling. However, she is most excited for writing and photography. Born in the Philippines and a traveling connoisseur, Caitlyn loves learning about people, which is why she is excited to write features. Her passion for traveling has led her to want to travel around the world. As a compassionate individual, Caitlyn values those that are driven to their goals, however, she hopes to learn to be more receptive to feedback. Caitlyn hopes to use this class as an opportunity to talk to more people. Transitioning from a previously pessimistic person, Caitlyn believes the power of optimism has a large impact on the way people interact. Caitlyn’s inherent curiosity to answer questions and creativity has brought her to journalism. In her free time, Caitlyn enjoys filming and editing videos and playing sand volleyball with her friends. You can contact Caitlyn @[email protected].
Ainsley Dwyer, Entertainment Editor
Ainsley Dwyer is a junior and the entertainment editor of The Sidekick. In her free time, Ainsley enjoys theater, enjoys singing, playing the guitar and binge watching TV shows and her favorite movies, Dead Poets Society, Almost Famous, Scream, Maurice and more. She is typically found listening to Taylor Swift, The Beatles, The Mamas & Papas, The Doors, Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, Amy Winehouse, Deftones, Coldplay and Evanescence. She’s born and raised in Coppell. Both her parents are from Colorado, and she plans to attend the University of Colorado to double major in history and journalism. Ainsley has two dogs named Blue and Rouey who are part lab and part pointer. Her favorite place she’s traveled to is New York and would love to live there when she's older. She also dreams of traveling across Europe. Ainsley is a big soccer fan, and her favorite player is Luka Modrić so she loves to root for Real Madrid and Croatia’s National Team. Ainsley also has a deep fascination with pop culture from the 2000s as well as pop culture from the 1960s and 70s. You can contact her on 'X'  (@ainsleydwyer).
Wendy Le, Podcast Producer
Wendy Le is a junior and the podcast producer of The Sidekick. Through The Sidekick, she found her passion in photography and podcasting. In her free time, she enjoys scrolling through Pinterest, capturing mundane moments on camera and spending time with her friends and family.  Born in Hanoi, Vietnam, she moved to the United States as an 8-year-old. Le’s childhood consisted of traveling around the world, more specifically, different parts of Asia. Constantly on the move, she finally settled down in Coppell, TX in the seventh grade, where she met some of her closest friends. When feeling burnt out, Le recharges her social battery by sitting in her bed and relaxing throughout the day. Listening to Lana Del Ray, specifically her Lust for Life album, helps bring a sense of peacefulness to her day. You can contact her at [email protected].
Avani Munji, Executive Design Editor
Avani Munji is a senior and the executive design editor for The Sidekick. Munji joined the program unintentionally, but found that The Sidekick was the perfect place for her to grow as a designer. Avani Munji is not Avani Munji without her brightly colored shoes and passion for wearing Crocs. When she’s not creating a design or trying to learn everything there is to know about Adobe InDesign, you can find her playing various videogames on her Xbox and mourning the loss of her 2008 Wii. Though she’s most productive in the morning, Munji finds the early-bird lifestyle hard to maintain, so she often works late at night. When she’s not home, Munji enjoys spending time at Barnes and Noble surrounded by books and coffee shops- though she prefers the coffee her mother makes over any other drink.  You can contact her on ‘X’ (@a_munjii).
