On Monday, the Coppell boys cross country team ran at the Class 6A Region I Mee at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. The Cowboys finished fifth, with senior Henry Henze placing 10th and qualifying for state with a time of 15:56.
“We had a good chance at top four. Our times stacked up well. I thought we ran a good race” Coppell cross country coach Landon Wren sayid. “Still would’ve been hard. Kids were disappointed.”
On the girls side, junior Mallory Sherrer and freshman Maya Easterwood both ran for individual times, with Easterwood qualifying for state after ranking eighth, finishing at 18:39.
“I wasn’t so confident but not that nervous,” Easterwood said. “The track was harder to run because it was hilly and we usually run on straight paths. But I was really happy to run the track. The down hills were really fun since you speed up.”
Wren looks forward to Easterwood running at state. The Class 6A Cross Country Meet is Nov. 3-4 at Old Setter’s Park in Round Rock.
“Ran unbelievably well,” Wren said. “I think this was her best run of the year. Super proud of her.”
