If there is one day out of the year where dress code is not applied at Coppell High school it’s at the homecoming dance. Girls are often able to get in with no problem despite how closely their dresses resembles nothing.
So I was a bit surprised to read that Mesquite high school decided to buckle down this year and turn down around 50 girls the opportunity to go into the dance based on their attire. I feel as if I must intrude and make a few points. Homecoming is basically a night for all of the students of a school to get together and dance way to close to one another. With this said, I really feel like it’s probably not the best time or place for a school to cut in and kick people out. Sure, if it was some fancy banquet that’s one thing, but homecoming night definitely isn’t the classiest event a school holds within a year. Anyways, there are very few dresses sold in stores that aren’t sleeveless or a tad short. I feel like this school wanted these girls to basically show up in a paper bag just in order to be allowed in. These girls paid money for this dance and to simply turn them down is unfair. Let’s think about their dates here, what a disappointment to any high school boy who pays all of this money for their date, buys a spiffy tie just to match their date’s dress, and is so excited to go with a super pretty girl, just to find out that his date isn’t allowed in and so he is alone all night.
What a buzz kill.
