The Coppell girls soccer team broke its losing streak with a 3-0 win against Plano on Monday at Buddy Echols Field.

“They’ve been really resilient,” Coppell coach Craig Able said. “They’ve really bought in despite some tough losses and challenging games, they’ve stayed the course. They continue to compete as a team and continue to work together; we continue to change the narrative about this program and we’re excited about that.”

A penalty kick taken by sophomore forward Reagan Roberson in the first half was the first goal scored in the match. The Cowgirls played strong offense and defense, controlling the ball for most of the match.

“We came out knowing that it was going to be a hard game, and we just fought through and worked until the end,” Roberson said.

The second goal was scored by senior forward Lillian Egger, and the final goal was scored by Roberson. Junior forward Sadie Ozymy and senior defender Tatum Escobar ended the match with one assist each.

“We came up with match scripts that every girl executed to a tee so I was really proud of them,” Able said. “Tatum Escobar had a fantastic game defensively and did a really great job. [Freshman midfielder] Rachel Matthew was really good in the middle. Regan Roberson and Lillian Edgar both were fantastic up top grading some really nice goal scoring opportunities for us.”

Matthew played an aggressive match, constantly taking possession of the ball.

“We executed our game plan,” Matthew said. “We did what we said we were going to do and we just played really well.”

The Cowgirls play Lewisville on Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Buddy Echols Field.
