After its first win against Flower Mound Marcus in four years last week, the Coppell football team is ready for a District 6-6A against Plano East tonight, with kickoff at 7 p.m. at Kimbrough Stadium in Plano.

“It’s always nerve wracking as a coach coming off of a big win and going into another big district game,” Coppell football coach Antonio Wiley said.

Wiley hopes to employ a strategy from last year’s win against Plano East.

“[Coppell] just kind of jumped on early, and Plano East wasn’t able to recover. And Coppell ran away with it. I’m thinking if we can do the same thing, it’d be great,” Wiley said.

The team’s offensive play style this year has worked to its advantage, with a 5-1 overall record and 2-1 in district.

“Our offense has been great, it’s always been able to go out and perform at a pretty high level and put stress on other defenses, which in turn puts stress on other offenses,” Wiley said.

Wiley thinks that “complementary” play will lead to a strong game tomorrow.

“I’m looking forward to seeing us build on the success of last week. More team wins—not one-sided, not offense carrying the defense or defense holding down for offense,” Wiley said. “If we can continue to do that, I think we have a chance to be really special throughout the rest of the year.”
