Current delinquents have begun to put a new spin on an old (and trite) trick: rather than simply shoe-polishing windshields, a recent outbreak of vandalism of senior parking spots themselves has occurred.
Seniors pay $50 for a parking spot, $25 to $30 to paint their spot, up to $40 for the paint itself, and spend hours of their time, so the outrage is understandable. Vandalism dates back to before school began as someone purposely drove through wet paint and drove in donuts around the parking lot. More recent misdemeanors include the perpetrator who took an object—believed to be a sandal—and coated it with paint and used it as stamp to mark over “2010” in students’ spots.
There is no current suspect, nor is it clear is there have been multiple perpetrators working in collusion or separately. There has been no discernible pattern in the parking spots targeted. The only current suspected motives are that students are trying to sabotage competition for free prom tickets or are simply acting out in attempts to be mean.
