After one loss breaking a winning streak from 10 games, the Coppell varsity softball team defeated Plano East, 9-1 at the Coppell Softball Complex.

Runs were scored by Coppell freshman outfielder Nevaeh Carter, senior infielder Lorien Zimmerman and senior outfielder Adrianna Erichsen.

“We had many players who scored solid hits today,” Coppell coach Ashley Minick. “Our baserunning was also good, so overall, we played very well today.”

The Cowgirls improved to 14-4.

“We had confidence that we would win the game, but we wanted to make sure we still pushed through the game,” Carter said.

During the game, a pitching change was made for Plano’s pitchers from number 20 Jadyn Dawson to number 4 Riley Hopper, a change which the Cowgirls had to quickly adapt to. Coppell pitchers also dealt with adversity from illegal pitches.

The Cowgirls’ general plan in yesterday’s game focused on patience, and waiting at the home plate for pitches they knew they could hit hard.  The Cowgirls were able to baserun skilfully by taking extra bases.

“The girls had to adjust to the pitching change but did a great job continuing with their original plan of waiting for pitches.” Coppell assistant Kim LeComte said.

Coppell plays at Flower Mound on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

“For future games, we need to focus on finding consistency in our batting and baserunning,” Minick said.
