A new head coach along with new teammates, as 17 seniors on the varsity team graduated last year, get ready to play a new opponent.

On Monday, the Coppell girls soccer team faces Lebanon Trail at Buddy Echols Field, with the match starting at 7:30 p.m. This will be the Cowgirls’ first scrimmage of the season with district play starting in January.

“We didn’t have a lot of people left on varsity, so we have a lot of new players from JV that we never played with before,” Coppell senior midfielder Bailey Peek said. “We got a whole bunch of freshmen, seven or eight that are on varsity. These past couple months, we’ve just been training hard because we are in the hardest district. We will see how we all play together on Monday.”

Despite all the adjustments the players experienced, Peek says first-year coach Fleur Benatar’s expertise in soccer is beneficial as players have been placed in new positions and new formations to utilize the team’s resources to the maximum.

“Coach Fleur is a really good coach because she used to coach at the college level,” Peek said. “She knows what she’s doing. I really think it helps push our team harder and makes us want to win more.”
