The Coppell baseball team came on top against Plano East on Tuesday night thanks to a nohitter by Coppell senior pitcher Chayton Krauss. The Cowboys host Plano East tonight at the Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex, with first pitch at 7:30 p.m.

“[Plano East senior pitcher Apollo Cassimatis] was really locating his pitches well and he had a really good changeup,” Coppell senior first baseman David Jeon said. “He threw a lot of strikes and changeups so it was hard to hit.”

The Cowboys (21-1-7, 8-3 in District 6-6A) have focused on hitting and in-game variables in an intrasquad scrimmage  on Wednesday.

“Our defense is really good so we need to keep that rolling and go in with confidence,” Jeon said. “[Plano East] will throw outside on us a lot, so we need to keep that in our minds when we’re hitting and try to drive it and hit the ball hard the other way.”

A win against Plano East (18-11, 5-6) would secure a playoff berth for the Cowboys, who currently hold second place in District 6-6A.

“If we win tonight we clench the spot in playoffs, which is big,” Jeon said. “It all comes down to this game. I trust in my team that we’ll come out and win.”
