Sitting in a three-way tie atop District 6-6A with Marcus and Plano, the Coppell boys soccer team has learned the importance of starting the match out strong. Going into tomorrow’s match, the Cowboys are expecting a fight from Lewisville, who currently sits at seventh in district.

Coppell (7-5-1, 3-1 in District 6-6A) hosts Lewisville (3-7-3, 0-3-1) tomorrow at Buddy Echols Field, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

After surrendering three goals in the first half to Hebron in a thrilling 4-3 victory on Friday night, the Cowboys look for a better start against the Farmers.

“We need to start our games off stronger,” Coppell sophomore forward Preston Taylor said. “We need to work on bringing more energy on the field during the game and finishing through.”

The team continues to work on finishing, reducing defensive errors and coming together as a team.

“We’re going to work on connecting more and get some strategies going for Lewisville,” Taylor said. “We need to work on finishing as well, we get opportunities but sometimes we have challenges trying to finish the game.”

With three teams tied for first place, Coppell is looking to keep pace in the district championship hunt.

“We have to keep our momentum going,” Coppell senior forward Brandon Gast said. “Every game matters in district. We just need to come out and do what we do best, win.”
