“I balance sports and school with friends. Those things get extremely stressful and overwhelming. It’s always good to have a nice friendly group that can help take your mind off your stressors. But also be understanding and motivating. I choose my basketball team because they are on a similar schedule as me so it’s easier to make plans. Playing a sport keeps me on my toes. I’m more flexible when it comes to situations. I know things aren’t perfect and that’s OK. It relieves stress from me when it comes to colleges. I still work extremely hard but playing sports gives you another way in. It builds your personality and social skills. I was nervous and shy, and basketball helped me crack that shell, even off the court.

I made [All-District 6-6A second team] for the basketball team, which was extremely shocking but I’m very proud of it. Especially since it’s my first year and I have grown so much. I also made varsity track. It’s my first year doing track and the coaches have faith in me. I wish we were in season to continue growing. I often do my homework in the car when traveling. Any free time I have is spent doing work or getting ahead because I know I’ll be tired and want to rest. My advice is to stay on your grind. It’s hard, but it will pay off. Slacking will only make you have to catch up harder.”
