After being on the road for the past two matches, the Coppell volleyball team faces Marcus tomorrow in the CHS Arena at 6:30 p.m. in the last home match of the month.

The Cowgirls (2-1 in District 6-6A and 20-13 overall) return from Flower Mound, where they lost a district match, 3-1. Marcus (3-0 in district and 19-10 overall) is looking to continue a seven game win streak, including a victory over powerhouse Hebron, which was the state champion from 2015-17.

“They beat Hebron, which is a really strong team, and it was unexpected,” Coppell junior setter/defensive specialist Mari Taira said. “They also have really strong hitters.”

To prepare for the upcoming match, the team analyzed film from Marcus’s previous matches.

“We started scouting [on Saturday],” Taira said. “We had Saturday morning practice and we had scouting groups based on our positions. We watched some videos of Marcus playing against other teams so that we could find out general tendencies, their offensive tendencies and their defensive tendencies.”

The night is also significant in that it is the annual Digs for Dogs event, hosted in partnership with the no-kill shelter, Operation Kindness.

“It’s Philanthropy Night, so it’s a big event for us,” Taira said. “We support Operation Kindness with our Digs for Dogs event but also, it’s a district match, which means it counts towards our chance to be in the playoffs.”
