The Coppell volleyball team plays Grapevine tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in the CHS Arena. This will be the Cowgirls’ last preseason match before the start of District 6-6A play.

“We played Grapevine in [the Northwest Tournament] in early August but we took a loss,” Coppell senior defensive specialist Victoria Wiegand said. “The head coach of Grapevine, coach Robyn Wallace, used to coach at Coppell so there’s an extra desire to win.”

Coppell (17-11) is coming off a 3-0 win against Keller Fossil Ridge, while Grapevine (13-14) is coming off a 2-3 loss to Byron Nelson.

“Our goal for this last game is to go out with intensity and make sure we’re competing at a high level to get ready for district,” Wiegand said. “We want to focus on running a more challenging offense.”

Coppell recently came back from a traveling tournament where they spent time at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla. They finished second in the 2019 Volleyball Fall Classic Tournament, which took place a week ago.

“Our trip to Universal taught us something beyond just the volleyball skills and training you would expect from a tournament,” Coppell senior libero Maci Watrous said. “It brought us so much closer together and strengthened our team chemistry that will help us through tough district matches.”

Coppell comes into the match with an experienced squad. There are 10 seniors on the team this year and four are committed to playing Division I college volleyball.
