Autumn falls into fun with annual St. Ann carnival
September 6, 2019
Coppell’s very own St. Ann Catholic Church’s annual carnival comes to town this weekend, expecting better weather than last year.
This is the carnival’s 27th year. The carnival has many rides, food and live performances to offer, as well as calmer activities, such as bingo, a silent auction and a petting zoo.
For many years, this carnival has been an important Coppell tradition. Typically, about 20,000 – 25,000 people attend. Despite facing heavy rain last year, St. Ann prides itself on its preparedness for sudden developments such as unexpected weather.
“Our faith community enjoys opening the parish to provide a fun, safe family weekend for the entire area,” carnival chair Tim Barr said. “Our parishioners really enjoy it, and many local residents feel the same way.”
The carnival also serves as a volunteering opportunity for many Coppell teens. The church’s goal is to register as many as 1,900 volunteers this weekend. The carnival asks for donations from the public for their events. Contributors can bake cakes for the cake walk and are encouraged to submit items for the auction. The proceeds of the carnival help the parish and benefit the community as a whole.
On Friday, the carnival runs from 5-11 p.m., on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 1-6 p.m.
