Cowgirls to play Keller in first round
March 28, 2019
Tonight, the Coppell girls soccer team travels to Northwest High School to play Keller in the 6A Region 1 bi-district playoffs.
The Cowgirls are coming off an explosive season, in which they went 24-1-1 overall and undefeated in District 6-6A.
With that momentum, the Cowgirls are going into the playoffs with mainly the same gameplan but are fine-tuning details.
“This week, we’ve really just been focusing on touching up little things,” Coppell coach Ryan Dunlevy said. “At this point in the year, we already know what we do and how we do it. Now it’s just putting the finishing touches on.”
While the Indians’ record is not as impressive as Coppell’s number-wise (9-5-4 overall, 6-4-3 in District 5-6A), they can still pose a threat to the Cowgirls. Keller is in a district with multiple state contenders, such as Carroll and Denton Guyer. So its record might not tell the whole story.
“Keller is a perennial powerhouse,” Dunlevy said. “They’re always right there in the conversation. Any time we go into a game like that, we have to respect what they have done in the past and what they are able to do this year.”
