What would you do to save a child with cancer? Raise money to fund a cure? Travel across the country and find the best doctor? In My Sister’s Keeper, leukemia patient Kate Fitzgerald’s parents birth a genetically-engineered baby to be the perfectly matched donor — Anna Fitzgerald.

Throughout her life, Anna donates blood and bone marrow to her sister, and now, her parents are considering having her donate a kidney. But Anna decides she has had enough. She wants to sue her parents for rights to her own body.

My Sister’s Keeper tackles the moral grayness of the Fitzgeralds’ situation through numerous fleshed-out perspectives, complex characters and strong writing. Anna’s struggle leaves readers thinking about choices, sacrifice, love and the harsh unfairness of life for days after their tear-filled eyes finish reading the last page.
