Puth returns with yet another groovy jam off his upcoming album, Voicenotes. The verses are quick-fire, matched with an equally rapidly paced guitar riff and drumline. In the prechorus, Puth slows things down for a moment with dreamy ‘80s-influenced instrumentals before launching into a light, self-empowering chorus. “I’ma tell them all,” he echoes over a danceable beat, “that you could either hate me or love me / but that’s just the way I am”. The song is packed with catchy hooks left to right that its three minutes seems entirely too short.

“The Way I Am” released on Friday and is the first track off Charlie Puth’s second studio album Voicenotes, which will be released on Friday.
