The Weeknd revisits the dark R&B/Soul influences of his earlier projects on his new EP, My Dear Melancholy,. Though the entire EP is consistent in quality throughout, “Try Me” is an instant standout. The lyrics in the song are interesting and emotionally complex, but it is the production of the song and the little details that take it from good to great: the electric synths, the thumping trap-influenced beat, the layers of backing vocals throughout the song—not to mention the ridiculously catchy chorus. These elements all make “Try Me” an atmospheric and immersive song, one that stands the test of many replays.
