UNICEF Fest to give back to children in need

Gracie Blackwell, Staff Writer

Charities around the world change the lives of children who are not able to take care of themselves. The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has continuously broken boundaries on aiding children in need.

On Oct. 29, UNICEF Fest is set to kick off, coordinated by Coppell High School junior Claudia Wang and seniors Rutuja Joshi and Tyler Huang, who are officers of the school’s UNICEF Club.

The fest is from 4 – 8 p.m. in Coppell’s Town Square located behind Town Hall, 255 Parkway Blvd.

“Our club has been planning this event since last summer and everyone should attend because we have a lot of fun things planned,” Wang said.

Admission is $5 and tickets for booths will be 25 cents each. The different booths will include games such as ring toss, bowling and a raffle. Shirts will be sold for $15 and people who have shirts do not have to pay the admission fee.

Bands will perform and there will also be an open microphone for karaoke. All proceeds from the festival gives back to the UNICEF Foundation. An array of different types of food trucks will be there, as well.

“I decided to organize this event because it provides our club with a platform to be able to raise more money for the UNICEF General Fund which supports everything from better education for children to vaccines and nutrition packets,” Wang said.

The event is family friendly and anyone is welcome to come support this important cause.
