“2015? You mean we’re in the future?”
Attention all Back to the Future fans: today, Wednesday Oct. 21, 2015 is the exact date that your favorite 1980s characters, Marty McFly and Doctor Emmett Brown, traveled to the year 2015. This will be the last time that a date from the movie coincides with an actual date.
Back to the Future’s idea of 2015 included flying cars and hoverboards, things that no one has the pleasure of owning today, and unfortunately we do not wear self-lacing Nikes or wear transparent ties.
And even though the Chicago Cubs are currently down in the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets, Back to the Future predicted the Cubs to be the 2015 World Series champion.
Despite these glaring differences between the the real 2015 and the movie version of 2015, we can still appreciate that people in 1985 thought we would be more technologically advanced than we really are today.
At 4:29 p.m. today be on the lookout for a flying Delorean, though if you miss it you can always just drink a Pepsi, or go to one of the many movie theaters near Coppell showing Back to the Future instead.
“Great Scott!”
