AP Statistics teacher Staci Zugaro stands in front of her first period, cramming in as much material as she can. When the bell rings, she stands at the door of the classroom, wishing each student goodbye.
Friday is her last day at Coppell High School, where she has worked for the last two years as both a teacher and an Instructional Math Coach. She is taking a position at BlueCross BlueShield of Texas.
“I am going to be an analyst for them,” Zugaro said. “So instead of teaching statistics, I will actually be doing statistics. It is an analytical consulting position, so I do a lot of running data and teaching people how to use the data.”
Zugaro came across the offer when a recruiter asked her to apply. She also has a family friend that works at the company. Her mother, Michele Zugaro also works at CHS, and is excited for her daughter.
“She’s going for a great opportunity, so I think that it’s great for her but I know that we will really miss her at CHS,” Michele Zugaro said. “I’ll miss seeing her everyday, but I will still get to see her on weekends and at family things.”
The mother and daughter duo started working at CHS together in the fall of 2013. Both worked in the math department, and Michele Zugaro will continue to teach AP Statistics.
“I never did think we’d end up working together,” Michele Zugaro said. “It’s been a lot of fun, and I think she’s added a lot to Coppell High School. I really enjoyed working together.”
As Staci Zugaro prepares for her new job, she has taken a few moments to reflect on her time at the school.
“It’s a little apprehensive, just because it’s a change and it’s huge and scary,” Zugaro said. “The second thing is that it’s bittersweet, because I really do love being here. This is such a great place to work. The people are wonderful and the students are fantastic. So it’s sad to leave something that’s so fun and easy and comfortable. But, I am really excited to try something new. It is a new adventure.”
