The Coppell Cowgirls finished with an excellent 18-3 record and as state runner-ups in Class 6A for Girls Texas Lacrosse. The girls faced off against the No. 1 team in the state in the state championship game on Saturday in Round Rock and it was an excellent game the Cowgirls gave St. John Lady Mavericks one of the closest games in their whole season following just short in a 12-8 loss to the undefeated Lady Mavericks.
The Cowgirls were district champions and state runners-up but with only two seniors on their roster and neither starting for the Cowgirls they will be fully reloaded again next year hoping to win the whole thing.
The Cowgirls would beat Episcopal School of Dallas, 9-4, in route to a district championship as the Cowgirls were led by juniors Mia Harp and Ashley Bartlett who had a combined seven goals. The Cowgirls weren’t done with ESD, though, they would have to face them again in the state semifinals on Friday.
This game was a much closer games and the Cowgirls had to dig deep to win this one coming out on top in an 12-11 outcome this win placed them in the state championship game. In the semi finals the Cowgirls were again lead by Harp and Bartlett who had a total of nine goals between them.
The Cowgirls were ranked second in the state according to laxpower.com as the Cowgirls did not lose a game all year to a team from Texas until they lost in the state championship game. The girls traveled to North Carolina earlier in the year for a tournament the girls faced off against some steep competition and finished the tournament with a 1-2 record and their only two losses of the regular season.
