The Coppell Cowgirls softball played a big game Tuesday night, a 16-6 win against Haltom to place them second place in District 7-6A. The Cowgirls came out swinging with nine runs in the first inning and never slowed down.
Cowgirls will play Midlothian Lady Panthers on Friday at home in first of three game Class 6A Region I bi-district series. Midlothian team placed third place in District 8-6A.
The young Cowgirls, with no seniors on the roster, delivered one of the biggest games of the season and serious playoff implications. It was simple as a win put them in second place in district and a loss would drop them to fourth.
The Cowgirls had 13 total hits and had nine different players score a run. Sophomore outfielder Mia Hermans had three hits and three RBIs and sophomore third baseman Sami Thomas had two RBIs and scored three runs.
Juniors Ali Gentry and Julia Sircar also had three hits each. Pitcher Rachel Sheffield pitched a great game giving up only four earned runs to a talented Haltom team.
