The Coppell Cowgirls golf team played in Class 6A Region I golf tournament on April 15-16 in Arlington at the Waterchase Golf Club.
They teed off at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. on Thursday. The girls got off to a rough start on Wednesday and were down by six strokes but were able to come back on Thursday and win the regional championship by two strokes.
“I feel like on the first day the conditions were hard for everyone to adjust to, but on the second day we all adjusted to the course,” senior Sol Lee said. “It was really weird because you could get a perfect shot, but it wouldn’t land in the perfect area.”
The Cowgirls are now the Region I champions with Allen in second and Southlake Carroll in third. All three teams will advance to state on April 27 at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.
Lee won first place after battling for it in the playoffs between two other girls, with one of the girls being a team member, sophomore Grace Do, who also tied with Lee with a score of 145.
