Dinner was served at Austin Elementary School in Coppell on Saturday evening. For the 21st year in a row, Boy Scouts Troop 840 hosted a chili supper, featuring free food such as chili, hot dogs, live entertainment and more.
Parents and Boy Scouts alike filled the cafeteria for an evening filled with good food and lots of fun, as they have been for years now.
“One of our old scout masters brought the idea down from his troop in Kansas City and we’ve been doing it ever since,” troop leader Lawrence Paroski said.
Not only is this an exciting tradition for the local Boy Scouts, but it is also a tradition for some long-time Coppell residents. Along with the free food, live entertainment was also provided in the form of Auto, a band of Coppell High School students, who entertained the good sized crowd with favorites like ZZ Top’s “Sharp Dressed Man” and Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So”. Other event attractions included a bake sale hosted by members of troop 840.
While a chili supper may not seem like an event that takes a lot of pre-planning and preparing, lots of effort was put into ensuring this event was a success.
“People have been here preparing for the event since seven in the morning,” troop 840 member Noah Morris said.
